چکیده

Abstract Recently, a collision-induced magnetic reconnection (CMR) mechanism was proposed to explain dense filament formation in the Orion A giant molecular cloud. natural question is whether CMR works elsewhere Galaxy. As an initial attempt answer question, this paper investigates triggering of and production gas flat-rotating disk with modified Bisymmetric spiral (BSS) field. Cloud−cloud collisions at field reversals are modeled Athena++ code. Under condition that representative warm neutral medium, cloud−cloud collision successfully triggers different radii. However, hindered by dominating thermal pressure, unless moderately stronger ≳5 μ G present. The strong-field model, having larger Lundquist number S L lower plasma β , activates plasmoid instability midplane, which otherwise suppressed rotation. We speculate can be common if more clouds collide along reversals. witness process numerical simulations, we need significantly resolve midplane spatial dynamic range ≳10 6 . If Milky Way arms indeed coincide BSS, it possible creates or maintains arms. High-resolution, high-sensitivity Zeeman/Faraday rotation observations crucial for finding candidates have helical fields.

Magnetic reconnection in Saturn's magnetotail: A comprehensive magnetic field survey

Reconnection within planetary magnetotails is responsible for locally energizing particles and changing the magnetic topology. Its role in terms of global magnetospheric dynamics can involve changing the mass and flux content of the magnetosphere. We have identified reconnection related events in spacecraft magnetometer data recorded during Cassini's exploration of Saturn's magnetotail. The eve...

Collision Induced Galaxy Formation

We present a semi-analytical model in which galaxy collisions and strong tidal interactions, both in the field and during the collapse phase of groups and clusters help determine galaxy morphology. From a semi-analytical analysis based on simulation results of tidal collisions (Aguilar & White 1985), we propose simple rules for energy exchanges during collisions that allow to discriminate betwe...

Collisionless magnetic reconnection with arbitrary guide-field

A new set of reduced equations governing two-dimensional, two-fluid, collisionless magnetic reconnection with arbitrary guide-field is derived. These equations represent a significant advance in magnetic reconnection theory, since the existing reduced equations used to investigate collisionless reconnection are only valid in the large guide-field limit. The new equations are used to calculate t...
